Taiwan Martial Arts

I have been here several years now still pursuing the dream of running my own school teaching Martial Arts for a living. I came here with experience in Silat though with big holes in my 'game'. Over the years my eyes have been opened to a whole new approach which I am very thankful for, I am still very keen on the SE Asian Martial Arts as they are all about function and thanks to a generous teacher here in Taiwan my approach to the whole subject of combat has been changed for ever. Its sometime hard to find what you are looking for in Taiwan as a lot is going on in the Martial scene here though only a certain part of it is ever advertised about. The best option is usually to visit a new park every week very early and see who appears. Though for newcomers still not confident in the language this can be a bit intimidating so a new page on Face book has been started to act as a resource for those looking for classes and for teachers looking to advertise their classes and seminars. Back to normal service

Its been a long time I have been extremely busy trying to get life organized while pursuing dreams of getting good enough to teach Martial Arts for a career. Its been a challenging few years but I have been extremely blessed to have some extremely kind people in my life that have made it possible for me to continue to pursue what I love, I am eternally grateful. With that I have also realized waiting just wastes time and all the other things that I have been waiting to do for when I was good enough need to be started now and worked upon. So expect lots of new posts on the Martial, Magical, Mysterious as well as the down to earn strength and conditioning type posts.

Logic, learning and the Trivium

Since being introduced by a teacher to new ways of learning and logic inclusive of the massively useful information on Logical Fallacies I have looked more and more into the these subjects and thought I would share some of the amazing info that is out there.

The Trivium method: (pertains to mind) – the elementary three.

General Grammar, Aristotelian Logic, and Classical Rhetoric comprise the first three rules-based subjects of the 7 Liberal Arts and Sciences. As these disciplines are learned and practiced together, they form the overarching, symbiotic system for establishing clarity and consistency of personal thought called the Trivium.

[1] General Grammar

(Answers the question of the Who, What, Where, and the When of a subject.) Discovering and ordering facts of reality comprises basic, systematic Knowledge

[2] Formal Logic

(Answers the Why of a subject.) Developing the faculty of reason in establishing valid [i.e., non-contradictory] relationships among facts, systematic Understanding

[3] Classical Rhetoric

(Provides the How of a subject.) Applying knowledge and understanding expressively comprises Wisdom or, in other words, it is systematically useable knowledge and understanding

Gratitude

Such an important quality that can easily be forgotten as the modern world attempts to thrust more and more upon us keeping us busy and never letting the water of our mind a chance to settle and be still. Once we sit in the stillness I don't think we need to be reminded of gratitude as it naturally springs from the stillness as does compassion. Of course this may differ from others experiences so here is a video to help us all remember this quality, hope you enjoy:

A Wish Seen Through- documentary from VAST-Bhutan

An inspireing story about the elderly from a village in Bhutan. It reminds me how lucky I am when I watch videos like this:

'When asked what their wish was, senior citizens in a village in Bhutan replied that they wished they could go on a pilgrimage to central Bhutan. Voluntary Artists Studio Thimphu (VAST) decided to fulfill this wish. 8 young volunteer artists took 27 elderly men on a road trip to Bumthang. Camping, interacting, and visiting holy sites along the way, for these senior citizens it was the trip of their dreams.

Nassim Haramein

Nassim Haramein was born in Geneva, Switzerland in 1962.

As early as 9 years old, Nassim was already developing the basis for a unified hyperdimensional theory of matter and energy, which he eventually called the “Holofractographic Universe.”

Haramein has spent most of his life researching the fundamental geometry of hyperspace, studying a variety of fields from theoretical physics, cosmology, quantum mechanics, biology and chemistry to anthropology and ancient civilizations. In addition to his scientific papers, Mr. Haramein imparts this theory in a layman’s paper, a 4 DVD set entitled “Crossing the Event Horizon: Rise to the Equation,” a 90-minute DVD entitled “Black Whole,” and his international speaking tours.

In the past 10 years, Haramein has directed research teams of physicists, electrical engineers, mathematicians and other scientists in exploring the various aspects of unification principles and their implications in our world today .
